Running clubs in Maastricht.

Maastricht has more organised running than its size suggests: a large athletics club that trains six days a week, a student association, a commercial training group out on the hills to the east, a social run club, and a free parkrun every Saturday. Here is each one — when it runs, what it costs, and who it suits.

Atletiek Maastricht — the main club

The city's athletics association, based at Sportpark Jekerdal on the Mergelweg. Recreational runners can train six days a week, daytime and evening, with long runs and interval sessions at every level, so you can pick the nights that fit your week rather than the week fitting the club. There is also a trail group on Monday evenings at 19:00 from the Sportcafé Jekerdal, for runners who can already run an hour non-stop.

Its beginner course, Samen Leren Hardlopen, is the successor to the old Start-to-Run programme: 12 weeks, starting twice a year in March and September, with the goal of running 30 minutes without stopping. It costs €35, trains on Saturdays with certified trainers, and opens with four short talks from specialists on shoes, health and safety. A follow-on phase, SLH+, builds towards an hour.

If you are a complete beginner in Maastricht, this is the most structured and cheapest way in. Miss the September intake and the next one is March.

UROS — if you are a student

MSAV Uros is the student athletics association, attached to Atletiek Maastricht and open to students at Maastricht University and Zuyd. Training is Tuesday and Thursday, 19:00–20:30, at the Jekerdal track: Tuesdays the runners head out towards Sint Pieter, Thursdays are intervals on the track. You can join three practices free before deciding whether to become a member.

There is more on the student route — UM SPORTS, the September window, running in English — in the guide to running as a student in Maastricht.

JustGoo — hills, east of the city

JustGoo is a commercial training group with locations in Maastricht, Meerssen and Valkenburg. In Maastricht it starts from the JustGoo SportCafé at Sportpark Bemelerweg (Oude Molenweg 23A) and runs out into the hills between Maastricht and Bemelen — the Ambyerheide and the Savelsbos.

Its beginner course, StartRunning, is 8 weeks, two sessions a week, ending with 2.5 km of continuous running. The autumn 2026 course started on 12 September with sessions on Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday at 09:30 and Tuesday at 18:30, at €69.50 for all sixteen. Courses start in mid-April and mid-September, plus January in Maastricht. For runners who are past the beginner stage, regular groups come with two free trial weeks.

Social Run Club Maastricht — company first

The newer kind of running group: free, informal, and more about the people than the training. Social Run Club Maastricht runs on Tuesdays and Saturdays, usually 5–7 km at around 6:00 per km — a conversational pace for most regular runners.

Meeting points and times are posted on their Instagram, @socialrunclub_maastricht, so check there before you go. If you are new to the city and mainly want to meet people who run, this is the lowest-commitment option after parkrun.

Tapijn parkrun — free, every Saturday

A free, timed 5 km at 09:00 every Saturday in the Tapijn park at the edge of the old town, run entirely by volunteers. Register once, bring your barcode, and run, jog or walk it — there is no time limit.

It is also the most reliable way to find someone your pace: the people who finish within twenty seconds of you are, by definition, the people you could run with every week. More on how to use it is in the guide to parkrun in the Netherlands.

Just outside the city

AV Maasrunners, based in Eijsden with training in Eijsden and Gronsveld, trains on Monday and Thursday evenings in level groups and offers trial sessions. Its Start-to-Run course is 12 weeks, Monday and Thursday 19:00–20:00, aimed at 5 km without stopping, for €50 including entry to the Mescher Bergloop, a 6.1 km hill run.

Loopgroep Cadier en Keer is the free option: every Saturday at 10:00 in fair weather, meeting outside the Aldi in Cadier en Keer, for anyone who can run 8 km. No registration — you just turn up. It is volunteer-run, so check their site before your first Saturday.

Which one suits you

Never run before? Samen Leren Hardlopen at Atletiek Maastricht (€35, March or September) or StartRunning at JustGoo (€69.50, three intakes a year). Or walk the parkrun this Saturday.

A student? UROS, three free practices first.

Want hills and coaching? JustGoo or Atletiek Maastricht's distance groups.

Mainly want to meet people? Social Run Club and Tapijn parkrun, both free.

Want it free and structured? parkrun plus Loopgroep Cadier en Keer.

What a club does not solve

Every option above gives you a group on a fixed night, at the group's pace. If you sit at either end of that pace, or your free evenings are not the club's evenings, you still end up running the rest of the week alone — which is where most running plans quietly fall apart.

That is the gap Zinq fills, and Maastricht is one of the two cities where it is live. It matches you 1-on-1 with another Maastricht runner whose pace range, free days and starting point overlap yours — Centrum, Wyck, Randwyck or Sint Pieter. The pool here is still small, and the app says so rather than showing you someone in another city. Plenty of people use both: the club on Tuesday, a partner on Sunday.
