Why it is hard to find a running partner in Rotterdam.
Rotterdam is not short of runners. On any weekday morning the Kralingse Bos loop carries a steady stream of them, and the city has more running clubs than most of its size. What it is short of is a way to find one of them who runs at your pace, on your days, near where you live.
The usual routes all fail in the same way. A running club runs as a group, which means running at the group's pace — you are either hanging on for 8 km or holding back for 8 km, and both ruin the run. A WhatsApp group buries the one message that mattered under forty that did not. Tracking apps know your splits to the second and have no idea that someone two streets away runs the same 5:40 on the same Tuesday evening.
The gap is specific: pace, availability, and proximity have to line up at once. Two out of three is a run that does not get repeated. That is the only thing Zinq tries to solve — it takes the pace range you actually hold, the days and times of day you are genuinely free, and your neighbourhood, and looks for a single runner where all three overlap.
Rotterdam is the first city, which means the pool is small and honest about it. If you are reading this early, you are one of the people the matching gets built around.

Where Rotterdam runs.
Zinq matches on the routes you already run. These are the ones Rotterdam runners keep coming back to.
Kralingse Bos
The loop around the Kralingse Plas is the city's default long run: 5.5 km of flat, well-drained path, lit through the winter, and busy enough at 07:00 on a weekday that you are never really out there alone. Most Rotterdam runners measure their week against it. Two laps is the standard 11 km; three makes a comfortable half-marathon build.
Het Park & Euromast
A compact circuit under the Euromast, roughly 2 km a lap, with the river on one side. It is where the city goes for easy recovery miles and for short intervals on days when the wind off the Maas makes the open riverfront unpleasant. Paths are narrow in places, so it suits a pair better than a group.
Along the Maas
Cross the Erasmusbrug and pick up the river path east or west for a flat, uninterrupted tempo route — few crossings, hard surface the whole way, and enough length to run 15 km without repeating yourself. Exposed to the wind, which is exactly why it is good tempo practice.
Zuiderpark
Rotterdam-Zuid's green lung, with a marked circuit that local clubs use for intervals and a grass perimeter when your legs want a softer surface. Quieter than Kralingse Bos at the same hour, and the obvious meeting point if you both live south of the river.
Delfshaven & the Nieuwe Maas
Historic harbour streets for shorter city runs, cobbles in places, and the usual jumping-off point for a loop out toward Het Park. Better for an easy 5–8 km with someone you can hold a conversation with than for a session where pace matters.

Running in Rotterdam: common questions
How do I find a running partner in Rotterdam?
Sign up for Zinq and set your neighbourhood. Zinq matches you 1-on-1 with nearby runners using the pace range you actually hold, the times of day you are free, and how close your neighbourhoods are — so you are matched with someone you can genuinely keep up with, close to home.
Where do people run in Rotterdam?
The Kralingse Bos loop around the Kralingse Plas is the most popular route in the city at roughly 5.5 km. Het Park below the Euromast, the paths along the Maas, and Zuiderpark in Rotterdam-Zuid are the other regular training grounds. Zinq matches you with runners who already run near you.
Is Zinq different from a Rotterdam running club?
Yes. Running clubs run as a group, which means compromising on pace — you are either holding back or hanging on. Zinq is 1-on-1: you are matched with a single runner whose pace and schedule line up with yours, and you agree a specific run rather than showing up to a group session.
Is Zinq free for Rotterdam runners?
Zinq is free and no payment details are required. Rotterdam is our first city, so early members help shape how matching works before we open other cities.
What pace do most Rotterdam runners hold?
There is no single answer, and that is the point. Zinq asks for the range you can hold on an ordinary run rather than a single number, because most people are a 5:20 on a good Tuesday and a 6:10 on a tired Thursday. You are matched where two ranges overlap, so neither of you spends the run hanging on or holding back.
Is it safe to meet a stranger for a run?
Meet in a well-lit, open, busy place — the Kralingse Bos main entrance, Het Park by the Euromast, or a metro station — and tell someone your route and time. Zinq lets you match with women only, men only, or anyone, and both sides have to agree before either appears to the other. You can block instantly, with or without filing a report, and neither party is told.
When is the best time to run in Rotterdam?
Early morning is the calmest on the Kralingse Bos loop and along the Maas, and the river path is noticeably more pleasant before the wind gets up. Winter evenings are workable because the Bos loop and Het Park are lit. Zinq matches on the days and times of day you are actually free, so a 06:30 runner is never matched with someone who only runs at 20:00.
